Vegan Cinnamon Apple Fritters Inspo
If you are from anywhere in Hartford County, the county I grew up in, you know that Southington (my hometown) is known for their apple fritters. People in Southington go nuts over the apple fritters sold at the yearly apple harvest. There is usually a line that is over an hour long during the weekends and evenings. The true trick is to go at 7 am where the is only a 10 minute line. But, you get the point, the are amazing.
While I do not still live in Southington, I do enjoy attending the apple harvest and I look forward waiting in the line to eat apple fritters. Ill admit, I am not as wild as the apple fritter lovers, but I feel like its not fall if I don’t eat a fritter.
Due to Covid, this year’s apple harvest is cancelled. That means no fritters. Which is an extreme bummer. So, I set off to make my own. I had to play around with the recipe for a while until truly making it perfect. I used my vegan cheesecake dip as a glaze for these, although you could make it with regular icing too.
These fritters are relatively easy to make and fry up quicker. They are crunchy on the outside, yet delicate on the inside. They have chunks of apple on the inside as well, making it feel a little healthy (which it is not, but thats why we eat these things!).
Making the Vegan Cinnamon Apple Fritters
Making this batter could not be any easier! It is basically a mix dry, mix wet then mix together! They batter will be sticky, but you should be able to form a loose ball.
Frying. You will heat the oil in a sauce pan. A little trick to know if you oil is hot enough – put a small chunk of bread in the oil and see if it toasts up! If it doesn’t, you need more time. Be careful and don’t wear nice clothes just in case of splatter.
You may also air fry these, which takes out a lot of the work. You simply place them on your air frying rack, put the temp to 410 degrees F and cook for 10 minutes, then flip and cook for another 8. They come out just as well!

Vegan Cinnamon Apple Fritters are the perfect fall treats that will make you think you are at a local fair. Enjoy these with my vegan cream cheese dip, whip cream or some vegan ice cream!
2 Apples (I used one granny smith, one pink lady)
1 Cup of Flour
2 Tsp of Baking Soda
1 Tbsp Sugar (I used sugar in the raw)
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp of Allspice
1/2 Tsp Nutmeg
Pinch of Salt
1 Tbspof maple syrup (or sub 1 tbsp of sugar)
1 cup almond milk
2 Tbsp of chia egg (2 Tbsp of chia seed mixed with 1/4 cup water)
1/4 cup of melted coconut oil, plus more for the skillet (or sub butter)
1 Cup of Powder Sugar
Dash of Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp of Vanilla
2-4 tbsp of almond milk
3 Cups of vegetable oil
- Peel and cork your apples. Cut them into small (approx 1/4 of a centimeter).
- Over medium heat, add coconut oil to skillet. Once it has melted, add in apple slices and cook until they are semi soft. This will take approx 4 minutes, depending on the hardness of your apple.
- Once the apples are semi sweet, add in your sugar in the raw and continue to cook for 2 minutes.
- While the apples are cooking, prepare your chia egg by adding 2 tbsp of chia seed to 1/4 cup of water. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Once the apples are done, place them to the side. If there is any liquid, drain it.
- Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix.
- Next, combine your wet ingredients (not the apples, yet) in a medium size bowl. The chia egg is included in this.
- Slowly pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until combined.
- Once mixture is well combined, gently fold in the apples.
- If you are choosing to air fry these fritters, jump to Step 13 (if you are short on time or want an easier recipe, this is a great idea).
If you are frying, continue with this step. Place the oil into a large sauce pan over medium heat. Gently heat the oil until it is ready. The temperature of the oil should be 300 degrees F. If you do not have a thermometer, no issues – wait for the oil to heat up. Once you believe it is hot enough, simply place a small chunk of fresh bread in the fryer. If it toasts up, you are good. If it does not, remove it, wait and try again once its a little warmer.
- Gently make a ball with the fritter (it will be a little loose) then immerse it in the oil. Cook for 60 seconds on each side, then place on a drying rack (make sure to put paper towels under the rack).
- Continue until all the batter is used. Let cool for 5 minutes, the ice. Enjoy immediately!
- Air Fryer- Grease your air frying pan. Make small balls with your batter (it will be a little lose) and line them up on the pan, 1/2 inch apart. Cook for 10 minutes at 410 degrees F, then flip and cook for another 8 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes, then ice! Enjoy immediately.
- Place all ingredients into a medium size bowl and whisk until smooth.
